Puppies in particular are vulnerable to catching certain life-threatening diseases because their immune system is not fully developed. Vaccination gives them a chance to create the antibodies that will help them fight off the diseases they could be exposed to from young age.

If you want to travel with your dog, make sure to check the vaccination requirements for your destination. Some countries, like the United States for example, require your pet to be vaccinated to prevent the spread of disease. Many kennels and animal day care centres require vaccinations as well.

What are the core vaccines for dogs and puppies?

The DHLPP vaccine, also known as the core vaccine, protects your dog against four life-threatening diseases: canine distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza virus.

How often should I get my pet vaccinated?

Our staff will talk to you about the vaccination schedule during your first appointment with the veterinarian. When a puppy is born, it receives maternal antibodies. These antibodies lose their effectiveness when the puppy is about eight weeks old. We recommend bringing your puppy to the vet around this time for their first vaccine. They should then receive two booster shots four weeks apart. They will need to be vaccinated every one or two years, depending on the agreed upon schedule. Your vet will let you know exactly when your pet should receive their vaccines. Our team will send you reminders when it is time to come see us again to get your pet vaccinated.
