Ultrasounds and X-rays

What is radiography?

Veterinarians use digital radiography (X-ray) machines to see, among other things, foreign bodies in the intestines, bone fractures, bladder stones, the number of fetuses during late pregnancy and the size and appearance of the heart and lungs.

Our digital X-ray machine delivers superior X-ray performance. Digital technology increases image accuracy and speed. If necessary, we can obtain a report from a radiology specialist in less than 24 hours.

It is possible and easy to transfer your pet’s digital X-rays to a specialist or to give you copies on a CD or USB.

What are ultrasounds?

Vets use ultrasounds for many different reasons. Most of the time, we perform abdominal ultrasounds. We use this type of ultrasound to assess the female reproductive system, the urinary system and certain organs like the liver and spleen. Ultrasounds allow us to observe the size, shape and texture of different organs. This kind of medical imaging is very useful for investigating soft tissue and detecting masses.

Veterinarians can also use ultrasounds as a guide to help them take a cell sample from an organ or mass. They will then send the sample to a specialized laboratory where a pathologist will provide a diagnosis. This procedure is known as cytology.
