At Clinique vétérinaire Cowansville we spay and neuter pets during the week, from Monday to Friday. Our clients have the option of bringing in their pets the day before the procedure or the morning of the procedure. After the operation, your pet will spend the night at the clinic so that they can start the recovery process in peace. Their short stay at the clinic allows our team to closely monitor the patients’ health and get them home smoothly and safely.
How do spaying and neutering work?
In females, we perform an ovariohysterectomy, which involves removing the uterus and ovaries. For males, the procedure is called neutering, which involves completely removing the testicles. Our vets routinely perform both surgical procedures. Your pet will be under general anaesthesia throughout the operation, so we strongly encourage getting pre-surgery blood work done and a veterinary exam.
What are the benefits of spaying and neutering?
There are many good reasons to spay and neuter our pets. In addition to preventing unwanted pregnancy, getting your female pet spayed also prevents heat cycles, uterine infections and mammary tumours. Neutering males prevents urine marking and reduces foul-smelling urine and the urge to run away, as well as the risk of prostate problems and testicular tumours.
Spaying or neutering your pet also helps fight overpopulation. Thousands of animals in Québec are abandoned each year and end up in shelters or SPCAs.
